What actually happens if you roof wet
Per NRCA install guidance and every major manufacturer's warranty terms, laying shingles on wet decking or over wet underlayment traps moisture that can rot the deck within a single season and typically voids the shingle warranty entirely. Ice-and-water shield in particular fails to adhere when the substrate is wet.
Reputable crews will tarp the exposed deck and pause; if a crew keeps working in steady rain, that is a warranty red flag — get the tarp protocol in writing before signing.
